The DABC Review Committee presented its findings to democratic leaders on Friday.

The committee, which includes restaurant and bar owners, gathered information over the last several months.  The public was invited to weigh in on the issues at several town meetings as well.  The committee presented a series of recommendations to address waste and mismanagement of the DABC, as described in previous audits.

The group does not want privatization of liquor sales, but called for more transparency and additional efforts to education the public about alcohol.

“I’m glad to hear from this report that they are not suggesting privatizing,” said Ross Romero, Senate minority leader.  “I don’t think that is where our state will go.  I think the control application has led us well and I think we need to work within the boundaries.”

“Somebody needs to be in control.  Somebody needs to over see this.  Taxpayer money is scared and to have it misused is horrible.”  said Peter S. Cooke, DABC Review Committee Co-chairman.

The presentation Friday does help move discussion forward with other lawmakers, as legislators try to craft a bill this session.
