SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – The Summit County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in a snowmobile crash near Whitney Reservoir as 38-year-old Lee Cornwell of New Port Richey, Florida.

Summit County Lt. Andrew Wright said deputies were called at 12:30 p.m. about the crash in a remote area of the Uinta Mountains near Whitney Reservoir Wednesday.

Wright said a group of three people from out of state were snowmobiling in the area, one from Florida and two from North Carolina.

One man was ahead of the others going up the hill and didn’t notice a steep drop-off.

The man went airborne over the drop-off and fell about 20, hitting his snowmobile.

The man radioed to his friends he was badly injured and complained of abdomen pain.

They went to help along with members of a nearby survival group that happened to be teaching a class in the area.

The group provided medical aid and called for help.

Emergency responders arrived and tried to save the man but he died at the scene.
