Utah is in a long period of job growth combined with a very low unemployment rate. Employers have to work harder to find employees though it’s a job seekers’ market.

This is a good time for someone who is looking for a new job or for a career change. Someone can earn a certificate, in just weeks or months, and move into an in-demand career, like medical manufacturing or computer coding.

The areas where Utah is seeing the largest job growth right now area:

  • Leisure and Hospitality – that includes things like restaurants, hotels, entertainment, and recreation
  • Construction – that includes skilled trades, contractors, etc.
  • Education and Health Services – that includes work in schools, colleges, hospitals, nursing homes

Employers usually find new employees in one of three ways.

First, they’re going to look internally to see if there is someone they can promote or move to a new position that is a better fit. This is the quickest, cheapest and easiest method for them.

Second, they’re going to seek referrals from within the company. Their employees will recommend family, friends or former coworkers.

  • This is why networking is so important. If you’re looking for a job, make sure to let everyone know. You never know who will have the connection that you need.

If they don’t find who they need with the first two strategies, then they will post the job publicly.

The place to find the most Utah jobs is the Workforce Services website, jobs.utah.gov.

They may also use national jobs sites like Indeed.com or Monster.com.

Companies may also post job openings to local classifieds.

Many companies and recruiters also utilize LinkedIn, so Workforce Service also strongly encourages people to maintain a good LinkedIn profile. If someone’s not sure how to do that, they can find a free LinkedIn workshop at a Workforce Services office.
