UPDATE: Police confirmed at 4:12 p.m. the suspect was taken into custody.

Police at the scene say the man was hiding in the basement of the home and only surrendered after a K9 was deployed. The suspect was bitten by the K9 during the course of the arrest. His injuries were not serious.

Police say the man was breaking into homes in the area near the home where he barricaded himself. He accessed that home, which was empty, by breaking out a back window.

Because the homeowners had firearms in the residence, police were concerned, however the suspect himself was not armed.

The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old James Schmidt. Police say he will be charged with multiple counts with burglary as well as resisting arrest and fleeing.
