SALT LAKE CITY — Two individuals were shot Sunday night, after a sale of a valuable necklace went bad.

The incident occurred late Sunday just after 9:30 p.m, in an alleyway near American Towers, on 300 S. between Main Street and West Temple.

According to Seargent Brandon Shearer of the Salt Lake City Police Department, the victim met with the suspect to sell a necklace, when the suspect pulled a firearm out in an attempted robbery. The victim, who had a concealed carry permit, exited the vehicle, and pulled out their own gun.

Shearer stated that both individuals fired at each other. The victim was struck in the foot, and the suspect was hit in the abdomen. The suspect attempted to flee, but was quickly found by police.

”The suspect Cameron Mullahkhel produced a handgun while they were in the vehicle and threatened the victim in this case. And then as both individuals got out of the vehicle that’s when the shootings occurred,” Shearer said.

Both individuals were taken to the hospital, and were in stable condition with minor injuries.

According to Shearer, the suspect asked for a ride after he met up with the victim. Shearer warned individuals to beware of who they are selling to online, and to never agree to give strangers rides.

“What we really strongly suggest is if you’re selling something online make sure you’re meeting whoever your dealing with in a public place that’s well lit. I would never give someone a ride,” Shearer said.
