HOLLADAY, Utah -- Unified Police have taken a man into custody in connection with the deaths of his parents.

Lt. Brian Lohrke of the Unified Police Department said they have taken 51-year-old Robert Liddiard into custody.

The man was apprehended at a home in Millcreek around 8:20 p.m. Saturday.

Police identified the victims as Robert and Diane Liddiard, both residents of Holladay believed to be in their 80s.

Police say the younger Robert Liddiard is a suspect in the deaths of both of his parents.

Police say the suspect suffers from mental health issues, which they believe may have been a contributing factor in the incident.

Things began when officers were called to a home in area of 4690 South Kelly Circle around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lohrke said a concerned family member who was not at that residence called 911.

"I believe family members were in contact with the suspect and he had made some statements that made them believe that the other family members, the parents, were in danger and they called us to investigate," Lohrke said.

Officers arrived to find a man and a woman, both in their 80s, deceased inside the home.

Police are not releasing any details at this time regarding the cause and manner of death but say the case is a homicide investigation.
