LAYTON, Utah — All lanes of northbound I-15 were briefly closed near Layton Parkway Friday as police responded to an apparent suicide that occurred after a minor crash.

Trooper Lawrence Hopper of the Utah Highway Patrol said things began with a minor fender-bender.

He said a man who collided with a woman’s vehicle got out of his car, approached the woman and displayed a gun. The man then went back into his car and shot himself, inflicting fatal injuries.

Hopper said the woman the man approached was not injured in the incident, and he said the man did not say anything to her or threaten her prior to shooting himself.

Fox 13 News does not generally cover incidents that appear to be a suicide unless there is a broader impact to the public, such as a police response and a freeway closure.

Several witnesses to the scene reported seeing multiple officers with guns drawn around the vehicle.

The Utah Department of Transportation stated as of 5:02 p.m. that northbound lanes were closed at mile post 330/Layton Parkway, but a short time later traffic cameras in the area showed vehicles moving again in some lanes.
