Suspect in custody after armed standoff with Salt Lake City Police

UPDATE: The suspect in the standoff was taken into custody shortly before 3 p.m.

Fox 13 News crews at the scene saw the man throw his gun on the grass before he laid down on the grass. He was then arrested without further incident.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.

SALT LAKE CITY – An armed stand off is currently underway in the area of 500 east and 600 south.

Salt Lake City police department has advised all citizens to stay clear of the area between 300-600 east and 400-700 south until the situation is under control.

As of 2:30 pm Fox 13 observed police still at the scene. The man has been pacing in the same area outside on their cell phone for the past 2 hours, it is unknown at this time whom the man is speaking to.

He is surrounded (at a safe distance) by policemen and swat team members who are armed.

Two credit unions, University and America First, both have branch locations near the corner of 500 S. 500 E. Both branches have been closed for over an hour, at the request of police.
