SALT LAKE CITY - A man is dead after a shooting in downtown Salt Lake City Wednesday morning.

Police responded to Pioneer Park near 400 W. 300 S. at about 1:30 a.m. to find a man dead on the sidewalk.

Police identified the victim as Shawn J. Manymules, 26.

Investigators are interviewing those who heard the gunshots and are trying to gather security camera footage, police said.

"UDOT has some cameras, some record and some don't, so they're working on that and trying to figure out if any of the buildings have cameras," said Salt Lake City Lt. Dave Cracroft. "There are cameras in the park but I don't know which direction they're pointing. Most of those are usually pointed in the park."

Officers have not released a description of the suspect. Det. Robert Ungricht of the Salt Lake City Police Department said they are working to find the culprit.

“We obviously want to bring some closure to this case for the family," Ungricht said. "It's a very sensitive case. We want to find out who did it and bring those responsible to justice."

The incident comes on the heels of a deadly attack that occurred near 6th West and 5th South Tuesday morning. One person was killed and three were injured.

“I wouldn’t say that’s very rare,” said Marco Groff, a homeless man.

Lawmakers are concerned about the growing criminal activity in the Rio Grande area.

“I feel that at times that, yes, my safety has been in jeopardy,” Groff said.

Ungricht says a coordinated effort on the local, county and state level can effectively address the crisis.

“Hopefully we can put an end to this kind of violence down here near the shelter," he said.
