SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah - A Utah Department of Transportation worker has been seriously injured in a crash involving a semi truck in Jeremy Ranch Thursday.

Officials said UDOT employee Morgan McCarthey was hurt while inspecting a bridge.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said a semi truck was going westbound on I-80 at about 11 a.m. and swerved out of the lane, hitting two of three UDOT trucks doing bridge work.

"And one of the UDOT workers was out getting ready to come and inspect the bridge, and he was in between the two vehicles," Sgt. Todd Royce of the Utah Highway Patrol said. "When the rear vehicle got hit, it actually pushed that vehicle into that UDOT worker and, in effect, pinballed him in between."

McCarthey suffered serious injuries, including wounds to his lower body. McCarthey is 36 years old and has two children, and UDOT says his daughter is celebrating her birthday Thursday.
