Rock climber dies after falling 100 feet in Big Cottonwood Canyon

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah – A rock climber has died after falling about 100 feet in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified Police said 26-year-old Matt Hearn fell while climbing with a friend near Stairs Gulch Thursday at 8 p.m.

Officers said witnesses immediately rushed to help him but his injuries were too severe.

Hearn worked at KUTV as a marketing specialist.
