PROVO, Utah — Mayor John Curtis is jumping in the race for Congress.

FOX 13 News obtained an email sent by his Curtis’ wife, Sue, to Republican delegates Wednesday morning that touts his accomplishments in public service and in business. It was sent from an email address that reads “Curtis for Congress” with logos for a campaign.

“My name is Sue Curtis, and my husband John is running for Congress. I hope you have time to get acquainted with him, but I know time is short. If you have a chance, we’d love to meet you in person at one of the meet and greets in the coming weeks,” she wrote in the lengthy email.

“John’s not your typical politician. With Ronald Reagan as his political hero, he holds himself to a high set of principles and values that will always be at the core of who he is. John believes a government should not do for you what you can do for yourself,” Sue Curtis added.

Asked about the email via text message on Wednesday, Curtis replied he had scheduled an announcement about his intentions in Provo on Thursday night.

Curtis, who has been popular as Provo’s mayor, has been hinting at the possibility of a run to replace Congressman Jason Chaffetz in the Third District. He is joining crowded field: Sen. Deidre Henderson, R-Spanish Fork; Sen. Margaret Dayton, R-Orem; Rep. Brad Daw, R-Orem; Tanner Ainge, Stewart Peay, Chris Herrod, Kathy Allen, Carl Ingwell, Ben Frank have so far all declared or have filed to run.

Chaffetz is stepping down June 30, saying he is having “a bit of a mid-life crisis” and wants to spend more time with his family.
