Police looking for shooter after man killed on Navajo Nation in San Juan County

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah – Police from multiple agencies are looking for the alleged shooter after a man was killed on the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, and classes are canceled for Whitehorse and Montezuma Creek Elementary School Friday.

According to the FBI, a 46-year-old man was shot and killed around 2 p.m. Thursday in Aneth, Utah–which is a small community on the Navajo Nation.

The FBI’s Salt Lake City Division stated they are investigating the shooting along with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the Navajo Division of Public Safety.

The FBI did not provide any further details about the incident, “due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.”

They stated the shooter remains at-large, but at this time they do not believe there is any threat to public safety. Law enforcement personnel are actively searching for the alleged shooter.

The identify of the deceased has not been released.

The San Juan School District said classes were canceled because of the shooting. According to the school website, classes will resume as usual Monday.
