WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A teenage boy is in serious condition after an altercation that led to a shooting in West Valley City Thursday.

West Valley City Police said the incident occurred in the area of 3280 South and 3740 West, and Fox 13 News first heard report of the incident around 3:30 p.m.

“We received multiple calls from citizens in the area reporting a fight and an altercation where shots had been fired, officers came into the area and found one victim laying in the road with others around him,” said Sgt. Brandon Christiansen. “That person was transported to the hospital in critical condition.”

Police later said the victim, a 16-year-old male, was upgraded to stable but serious condition.

Christiansen said at this time no one is in custody, and detectives are in the early stages of their investigation so they don’t have any details regarding the suspect or suspects. He said it was unclear exactly how many people were involved in the incident.

“We know there was multiple people, it looked like there was some altercation before the shots were fired,” he said.

Fox 13 News will update this story as more details emerge.
