MURRAY, Utah – A frozen switch along the Trax rail line caused some minor delays Sunday morning, according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman, Remi Baron.

Baron says the lock on the switch near the 4500 south grade crossing became frozen early Sunday morning.

The switches direct trains onto the correct section of track, and when that didn’t happen, the train came to a stop due to an automatic safety feature.

When the train stopped, crews quickly determined the switch was frozen.

Normally, crews use a torch to thaw out the switch, but in this case, they replaced the switch, according to Baron.

It took just over 15 minutes to replace the switch, but delays were longer than that for riders on both the blue and red lines.

No one was injured and trains are all running on time now.
