SALT LAKE CITY — Friends and family of a Salt Lake City woman paid tribute to her outside her home Sunday night, after police said she was shot and killed by her partner on Saturday.

Salt Lake City Police said they found 54-year-old Rose Harris dead in her home, after 53-year-old Sue Hickman called 911 to report she had shot Harris.

Hickman was immediately arrested, and faces a homicide charge.

One day later, a group of people stood outside Harris’ front yard fence, holding candles in the cold winter night.

The flames burned in tribute and memory.

“She was a beautiful lady, she always had a lot of spark, a lot of spunk,” said Moe Doutre, who said he worked with Harris off-and-on for 19 years.

He said she was a stagehand, and they often worked rock concerts and trade shows together at venues like the Salt Palace.

It’s clear she was a joy to work with.

“She would just come and grab you and hug you, and hold you and love you,” Doutre said, with a smile. “She was always a ray of sunshine in your life.”

Becky Palmer, Harris’ niece, said Harris was her life-long champion who was always by her side, rooting for her.

Palmer said she lived with Harris in her home for about three years when Palmer first moved to Salt Lake City.

“She was the most loving person, she was instantly the friend of whoever she met,” Palmer said.

Even more people had shown up on Sunday outside of Harris’ co-workers. They left behind candles, cards and flowers on the front porch.

Palmer said Harris showed up for so many people and helped them out in their lives, so she was happy to see so many show up to celebrate Harris’ life.

She said Harris lived her life spreading love and joy to the people around her.

“All that she wanted was to be happy and to be a good person to those around her,” Palmer said. “I feel like she accomplished that. She was a good person and she spread love.”
