SOUTH OGDEN, Utah — There were two candlelight vigils Tuesday for the victims of Friday’s shooting in South Ogden.
A large crowd turned out to honor 61-year-old Kevin Nelson at South Ogden Park, who was shot and killed in a home invasion robbery at his neighbor’s house.
Nelson’s family wanted people to know he was born and raised in Ogden, had one brother and six sisters, and ran a successful automotive electronics business.
They said he’ll be greatly missed.
“I think his message to everyone would be to celebrate his life and remember the good times, remember all the times that we laughed and all the moments we shared with each other,” said Ralph Nelson Jr., Nelson’s nephew. “I think he wants us to remember those, and treasure those.”
The family members said they have vowed to make sure justice is served and the attackers are held accountable. A fundraising account has been created to help the family with funeral costs.
A second vigil was held at Loy Blake Park in West Point Tuesday evening, to honor the other victim in the shooting, 24-year old Cyle VanKomen.
Friends and family of VanKomen also gathered on Sunday, and told Fox 13 he put his family first and was always willing to help out friends in need.
Another man who lived with VanKomen survived the home invasion, and police said he is in the ICU with life-threatening injuries.
