PARK CITY, Utah - He was the first alpine skier to win triple gold at a World Championship and win gold in the 1952 Olympic Games.

Deer Valley Resort and the Stein Eriksen Lodge had a celebration for Stein Eriksen, "the father of freestyle skiing," over the weekend.

About 200 of his closest friends were there to celebrate what would have been his 89th birthday Sunday.

He passed away last December.

Those who knew him say he was considered "a blond god on skis."

The celebration included a plaque unveiling that will memorialize Eriksen.
