SALT LAKE CITY -- Loved ones and supporters gathered in downtown Salt Lake City Friday night to honor the memory of 3-year-old Elsie Mahe, the daughter of BYU running backs coach and former NFL player Reno Mahe.

Elsie Mahe died of injuries she suffered in an accident at home when she became tangled up in the cords from some window blinds.

The Mahe family held a public memorial Friday, as members of the community have stood by them throughout the ordeal. The family ultimately decided to donate Elsie's organs after her prognosis declined, saying they believe her ability to heal others with her death is a miracle, even if it's not the miracle they had hoped for.

"Elsie's earthly mission was shorter than expected, but packed full of love and life," Sunny Mahe, Elsie's mother, said during the memorial service.

Elsie's brother said he will miss the energy and happiness she brought into their family.

"I know she wasn't here for a very long time, but she definitely made the most of life," he said.

In addition to those who spoke, the program also featured musical numbers.

Elsie loved princesses, and her family says she will be laid to rest wearing a princess dress her grandmother made for her. A private funeral for Elsie will be held Saturday.
