SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Kamas City mayor suffered an apparent heart attack while driving an empty school bus Monday morning.

The accident occurred at about 7:54 a.m. Lewis Marchant was operating the bus for South Summit County School District on State Route 150 between 100 East and Main Street when he suffered an apparent heart attack, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

As the mayor suffered from the medical emergency, UHP states, the bus veered off the road to the right and struck a power pole.

Marchant was taken to Park City Medical Center in critical condition where he was later transported to Intermountain Medical Center by helicopter.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash.

SR-150 was closed between Main Street and 100 East while Rocky Mountain Power replaced the pole.
