SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams announced Sunday that Deputy Mayor Lori Bays will be leaving her position at the start of the new year to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Bays, who has been Deputy Mayor since September of 2015, submitted her resignation November 30, “in order to pursue opportunities outside the county,” according to a press release from McAdams’ office.

With the mayor’s first term in office coming to a close, Bays said she felt it was the right time to take on a role that allows her to partner more directly with individuals and organizations in a community. The resignation will take effect January 1 of 2017.

“I want to thank Mayor McAdams for giving me the opportunity to serve the residents of our community,” Bays stated. “I have enjoyed my time at the county and I look forward to working with community partners and fellow residents to help all members of our community have opportunities to live healthy, successful lives.”

McAdams will be making announcements in the near future about a reorganization of the executive team in his office, according to the press release.

“I appreciate the service that Lori has provided to the citizens of Salt Lake County, both as deputy mayor and as the director of the Department of Human Services before that,” McAdams stated in the release. “She cares deeply about the well-being of residents here and has made significant contributions to a safer, healthier, more prosperous future for everyone in this valley. I wish her well in her future endeavors.”
