Teen dead after truck plunges nearly 200 feet in Carbon County

CARBON COUNTY, Utah — An 18-year-old man died Sunday night and another person was injured in a crash in Carbon County.

According to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to an area near Benches Road in Consumers Canyon around 6:15 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies found a truck that had gone over a nearly 200-foot cliff.

Donald Winter, 18, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, a Facebook post from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office said, and a second victim was taken to Castleview Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office listed weather-related conditions as a cause of the accident. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
