MURRAY, Utah – A wanted man with several warrants out for his arrest in Idaho was captured by a SWAT team in Utah after an hours-long standoff.

The Unified Police Department received information around 11 p.m. Friday that 28-year-old Matthew Montgomery was hiding out in a building near 4200 South and 500 West in Murray.

“We had information that he was armed and dangerous and unwilling to go back to prison,” said Det. Check Malm of UPD. “We took extra precautions because of the intel we had on this individual.”

The SWAT team eventually entered the building, but initially they did not find Montgomery. Then they discovered a hole in a wall that connected to an adjoining unit, where Montgomery was found to be hiding.

The man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
