BRIGHAM CITY, Utah — The Brigham City community is rallying together in support of one of their own.

State Trooper Eric Ellsworth was hit by a car while trying to direct traffic in Box Elder County Friday night. Ellsworth was directing traffic on SR-13 after a power line went down. He was accidentally hit by a 16-year-old driver.

He remains in the hospital in extremely critical condition.

FOX 13 visited Ellsworth's neighborhood Monday, where neighbors described Ellsworth as compassionate and helpful.

"We were out raking leaves, two old folks, and here's Eric and the kids come over and help," said Marian Hope.

Now it's the neighborhood's turn to show some compassion for this trooper, along with his wife and three sons. The family's yard was covered in American Flags, and blue ribbons were tied around every tree on the street.

"It just means support and support can go a long way, just knowing that we're here if you ever need anything," said Kaidyn Ballard.

According to Ellsworth's neighbos, if there is such a thing as the perfect family, the Ellsworths are it.

"They are the sweetest parents and we absolutely love them to pieces," Hope said.

Hope has a particular attachment to the children. The boys recently wrote her a thank you note after she gave them some toys and snacks.

These neighbors said they will not give up hope that Ellsworth pulls through.

"And I pray for the 16-year-old girl too. I don't, and I'm sure they don't, hold any grudges too. It was just a horrible accident," Checketts said.

The accident is still under investigation. As of Monday evening, the teenager responsible has not been charged.
