Snow covered Utah in the state's first winter storm of the season.

Preliminary estimates show higher elevations got about 6 inches of snow and lower valley areas saw 1 to 3 inches.

It accumulated on grassy areas but not on roads because the ground is too warm.

The best chance of more accumulating snow will be over the mountains and just south of the Great Salt Lake across western Salt Lake County and eastern Tooele County.

Strong northwest winds are likely across Castle Country and San Rafael Swell.

Gusty cross winds could make travel difficult on SR 10 and along I-70.  Winds will decrease Thursday night.

Showers will taper off Thursday afternoon and evening.

Dry weather returns Friday.

There’s a good chance of fog Friday morning.
