CLEARFIELD, Utah — A man faces multiple charges after he allegedly threatened a family member and held her against her will in their home, and police say at one point the victim injured herself after jumping from a second-story window in an effort to escape.

According to a press release from the Clearfield Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired Tuesday around 9:49 p.m. in the area of 2400 South and 500 West.

Police heard reports a woman was heard screaming and was then carried into a residence by a male suspect. Police then received a second call from a woman who said her boyfriend was inside the residence and had discharged a rifle. Police communicated with the suspect via the girlfriend, and a short time later Kevin Morris surrendered.

The release states that officers determined Morris lives at the residence with the female family member, and the two got into a verbal argument about living conditions Tuesday night. At one point Morris allegedly knocked on the victim’s bedroom door and then held an, “AK47 to his chin” while threatening to kill her and himself.

Morris fired at least one shot into the floor when the victim began walking toward him, and she then ran toward the porch. Morris allegedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back into the home.

The victim eventually made it to her bedroom, where “out of fear” she jumped from the second story window. She suffered “less serious” injuries to her legs and feet, which prevented her from walking to the neighbor’s home for help, the press release states.

Morris allegedly came outside and carried the victim back into the home, and it is around that time he got into contact with his girlfriend via social media and then ultimately surrendered to police.

Police searched the residence and found several firearms along with drug paraphernalia.

Morris was booked into the Davis County Jail and faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia.
