MILLCREEK, Utah — Police cordoned off several blocks in Millcreek Saturday as they searched for an armed suspect who attempted to carjack multiple vehicles, but after several hours police lifted containment without apprehending the man.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder said 25-30 units including K9 teams responded, and they blocked off an area from about 700 East to 900 East and from about 3600 South to 3900 South.

Just after 5 p.m., police said they were lifting containment in the area but would continue to investigate and interview witnesses in the hope of finding the suspect.

Winder said officers responded to an initial call and the suspect, who has a firearm, fled and subsequently attempted to carjack three different vehicles. Fox 13 News first heard report of the search around 2:30 p.m.

The suspect is described as a white male with a skinny build who has blond hair and is carrying a firearm. He has an injury to a hand, possibly his left hand, and that wound may be bleeding. Winder said the man was wearing a white shirt but may have since stolen some clothing from a back yard.
