UTAH COUNTY — A warrant unsealed this week offers more details in the investigation into a homicide where the victim was found in a shallow grave in Utah County.
Hunters found what looked like a shallow grave on October 19, and after securing a warrant for the property police found the body of 22-year-old Wesley Dee Nay of Mt. Pleasant.
A detective who responded to the location where Nay was found stated he suspected Nay might be buried there because the scene closely matched stories reported by several witnesses in the missing person investigation.
Nay was reported missing weeks earlier, and the detective said more than one person told authorities they had heard that, “Wesley [was] set on fire and buried in a hole,” the warrant states.
Another witness had made a statement about borrowing a chainsaw to cut some wood to burn evidence in the same general area where the grave was found.
Police ultimately located charred human remains including a skull, the remains of a foot and what may have been a hand. Nay was identified through dental records, police stated.
While a Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office detective was the first to respond, a review of maps determined the grave’s location is actually about 2,000 feet over the border into Utah County.
So far police have not yet released any information about suspects or a possible motivation for the homicide.
