Three suspects in custody for killing West Valley officer during police chase are teens

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The three suspects in custody, accused of hitting and killing 25-year-old West Valley Officer Cody Brotherson, are juveniles.

Police confirmed the suspects are 14, 15 and 15.

Authorities said Brotherson was hit by a car police were chasing near 2200 W.  4100 S. over the weekend.

According to police, Brotherson was putting out tire spikes to stop the suspects' car when they hit him.

He was a three-year veteran of the West Valley City Police Department and the first in the department's history to be killed in the line of duty, according to West Valley City Police.

WVC Police Chief Russo is hosting a candlelight vigil Wednesday instead of the regular community meeting at 7 p.m.
