Woman stabbed in Cedar City home invasion

CEDAR CITY, Utah –  On Sunday November 6, 2016 around 4:00am, officers were dispatched to a “home invasion stabbing” at a residence located at 1300 west block of 1500 south, according to Cedar City Police.

When officers arrived they found the suspect being held down by the homeowner.

They also found a female victim in the home with multiple stab wounds to her neck, chest and upper body area.

She was immediately transported to Cedar City Hospital for emergency treatment.

The victim is the homeowner’s wife.  Her wounds do not appear to be life threatening.

There were other children in the home at the time but no one else was injured.

Police identify the suspect is Ismael Lopez, a 19-year-old Cedar City resident.

He suffered minor wounds to his hand and was treated and later released at Cedar City Hospital.

He is currently in the custody of the Cedar City Police Department.

The motive for the stabbing is unknown at this time.

This is still an active investigation, and detectives and crime scene technicians are still processing the scene and interviewing witnesses and the suspect.
