LOS ANGELES — The man responsible for arranging to call thousands of voters with a message against 3rd-party presidential candidate Evan McMullin said he is sorry and that he has disabled the calls.

William Johnson, who identified himself as a white nationalist in the recording, wrote that he is “sorry for the mean-spirited message” and that the rest of the calls originally scheduled to go out Wednesday have been disabled.

Johnson’s message questioned McMullin’s politics, his family and his sexual orientation. Johnson said McMullin is an open borders amnesty supporter and criticized him for being “okay” with having “two mommies.” Earlier this week, McMullin told FOX 13 that his mother is married to another woman, but he said he disagrees with her on the issues of homosexuality and gay marriage.

Johnson’s message also called McMullin’s own sexuality into question.

“Evan is over 40 years old and is not married and doesn’t even have a girlfriend. I believe Evan is a closet homosexual,” Johnson said in the recording.

Johnson said his call was made in support of Donald Trump, but the Trump campaign repudiated it.

Read William Johnson’s full statement on disabling the call:

To:  All concerned,

Please be informed that I have disabled the anti-Evan McMullin robocalls that went out Monday and Tuesday and is scheduled to finish today.  I will not send the rest of the robocalls out to Utah or anywhere else.  I have stopped the campaign immediately.

I am sorry for the mean-spirited message and I humbly retract its contents.  I sent the robocalls out because Utah is a strong family-values state and America and the West is gripped by an extreme and fatal malady:  failure to marry and have children.  The white birth rate is so astonishingly low that Western Civilization will soon cease to exist.  I felt that Evan McMullin typified that perfidious mentality.

Donald Trump’s campaign has repudiated my robocall and many people from Utah and beyond have excoriated me for it as well.  Just as Donald Trump has issued a heart-felt apology for his past locker room talk, I too issue a heartfelt apology for this robocall.   I should not have sent out.  I am truly sorry.

Sincerely,
