OREM, Utah — Orem officials are seeking the public’s help in find the person responsible for dumping a non-toxic material into the city’s sewer system.

On Tuesday, city officials announced they are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the “phantom dumper.”

The disposals have been occurring every week for the past few months, according to a press release from Orem City.  Authorities say the suspect is dumping a fibrous material into the sewer system, which is causing clogging and costing thousands of dollars.

While authorities have been searching for the “phantom dumper” the city is now offering a reward for information leading to the culprit.

“We need help to find out who is doing this,” said Orem Mayor Richard Brunst. “They are doing it on a regular basis and they are doing it to avoid their own cost, but at a very high cost to Orem ratepayers.”
