HEBER CITY, Utah — A man is behind bars on burglary and drug charges after a homeowner in Heber City came home and allegedly found the suspect in his residence.

According to the Heber City Police Department, 30-year-old Jeffery Chadwick Jackson of Heber was arrested on felony burglary charges after witnesses and tipsters led police to his home.

Things began around 9 a.m. Sunday when a man came home and found Jackson, who is unknown to the victim, inside the house. The resident confronted Jackson, who jumped out of a second-story window to the ground and escaped on foot.

The man was later arrested at a home where Johnson rents a room, just a few doors down the street from the alleged burglary. Officers serving a search warrant found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the room. One officer went to a hospital for treatment after being stuck with a used hypodermic needle.

Jackson was booked into jail and faces charges of burglary, bringing drugs into a jail, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, theft, and tampering with evidence.

Police reminded residents to be cautious and take steps to secure their communities.

“We would like to remind all Heber City Residents that it is very important to lock your doors even when stepping out for a few minutes,” Heber City PD stated on Facebook. “Also be wary of who you rent rooms too and what type of element your (sic) bringing into your neighborhood.”
