SALT LAKE CITY -- A 25-year-old man was charged, Monday, with two murders that occurred in Magna more than a year ago.

In August 2015, Stevan Chambers, 26, was found dead in the street. Days later, Chambers’ friend, Shelli Brown, 26, was found a block away at a park.

Murder charges were filed against 25-year-old Brandon Warren.

“It was vicious the way he murdered Stevan. It was vicious the way he murdered Shelli,” said Tiffany Chambers, Stevan’s sister.

Charging documents go into details how the two were killed.

“It was horrible, evil, the things they did to them was horrible,” said Brenda Chambers, Stevan’s mother. “It's really hard to read some of the details how my son died.”

The family says the charges are a step toward justice.

“They've been saying for a long time they had a suspect and it's been frustrating we're right there we're so close and I wasn’t going to stop fighting,” Tiffany Chambers said.

“This was complicated case,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.

With three separate shootings in Magna and two murders all unraveling in a span of 48 hours, detectives spent countless hours looking for the suspect.

After interviewing more than 100 witnesses, collecting DNA and executing search warrants, they found Warren and found the deaths were connected.

Charging documents say "bullets removed from Mr. Chambers and Ms. Brown's bodies were also determined to be fired from the same firearm."

“Tying all that information together we filed the two murder counts,” Gill said.

Tiffany Chambers said they’re grateful to be where they’re at now in the case.

“I’m really relieved to know the charges are finally filed and that we have a little bit of closure at least we can mourn in a different way now,” Brenda Chambers said.

Warren was already in custody at the state hospital when the murders charges were filed. He is facing four unrelated charges.

His bail is set at $2 million. A competency review hearing is scheduled for next September.
