SALT LAKE CITY -- Republican Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence is scheduled to speak in Utah this week, officials confirmed Monday night.

Pence is slated to speak at the Infinity Events Center, 26 E. 600 South, Wednesday afternoon, according to owner of the venue. Pence is expected to speak at 3:30 p.m.

Pence is coming to Utah to shore up a usually rock-solid win for the Republican Party. However, recent polls show the Trump-Pence ticket barely leading or trailing Independent candidate Evan McMullin.

Speaking at a rally in North Carolina on Monday, Pence told a crowd the race is far from over and some polls are leaning in their favor.

"Well the polls that I'm looking at, let me think, Rasmussen's got us up 2 across the country. Investor's Business Daily has up 1 across the country," Pence said to the crowd.

Meantime, the Clinton campaign is ramping up its own efforts in Utah.

"I'm here as a Republican to say that I urge people to vote for Hillary Clinton," said former Republican Sen. Larry Pressler from South Dakota.

Pressler is serving as a Clinton surrogate, making campaign stops in Salt Lake City and Bountiful on Monday and Tuesday. Perhaps his most notable stop is in Bountiful at an LDS house party, trying to build on the Mormons for Hillary campaign.

"I hope Utah doesn't throw away their vote and it would be very exciting to see Utah go for Hillary Clinton," Pressler said.
