PROVO, Utah - Police are searching for a suspect accused of attacking a female jogger in Provo.

"He pushed her from behind knocking her to the ground," said Provo Police Officer Nisha King.

King said the 31-year-old victim was running through a neighborhood on Slate Canyon Drive around 10 p.m. on Saturday when the victim spotted a man jogging toward her on the opposite side of the street. Shortly after passing her, he crossed the road and started running directly behind the victim and pushed her to the ground.

"As far as we know, he tried to strangle her and put his hands around her neck," King added.

The victim continued to fight, got away, ran home and called police.

Police said the suspect is described as a man in his mid-20s with no facial hair, a medium build and a darker skin complexion.

"This hits a little too close to home," said Brian Miller who's helping develop the area. "I see people jogging up and down that road all the time."

"This neighborhood or this city has the stereotype of being safe, and I think he takes advantage of that," said Mike Slagle, a runner in the area.
