24-year-old woman in critical condition after apparent strangulation; suspect in custody

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A 24-year-old woman remains in critical condition after police say a man strangled her then called 911.

Jeffery Larson, 29, is accused of attempted homicide in connection to the assault that occurred on the morning of Oct. 16.

The incident occurred at about 6:32 a.m. when officers responded to the area of 6000 West and 4100 South after receiving an anonymous call that a woman needed medical attention, according to a press release from West Valley City police. When police arrived on scene, they found the victim in a car and she was unresponsive.

The woman was taken to an area hospital.

“Upon examination by doctors at the hospital it was concluded that the 24-year-old female was suffering from injuries consistent with being strangled,” the release states.

Investigators were able to identify the anonymous 911 caller as Larson.

While being interviewed by authorities, the release states, Larson made statements indicating he had strangled the woman in a car then later called 911.

According to the release, Larson also admitted to taking property from the victim.

Larson was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on attempted homicide, a second-degree felony; obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony; and theft, a class B misdemeanor.
