OGDEN, Utah -- An Ogden man was arrested for homicide in connection with the death of his 8-week-old daughter earlier this week, Ogden police confirmed Saturday morning.

On Oct. 2 at about 6 p.m., Ogden City police and Ogden City Emergency Medical Services responded to a report that an infant had stopped breathing. The child's mother and a roommate took the child, named Avery, to the hospital and pulled over in the 2300 block of Harrison Boulevard to meet emergency responders, according to an Ogden police Facebook post.

The mother came from her apartment at the 1400 block of Brinker Avenue where Avery lived with her parents.

Avery was taken to Primary Children's Hospital where life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

"The investigation has determined Avery was physically abused which had lethal consequences," the post states.

Police did not provide specific details about those injuries.

“We have specifically what that trauma is and the nature of the trauma, and what we believe is, over a period of time, and what that final trauma was that caused the death of this young lady," said Lt. Tim Scott of Ogden Pd. "We’re not releasing that at this time for the protection of the prosecution and the investigation of the case. We’ll let that come out at preliminary hearing."

The infant's father, Michael Lee Hatton, was arrested Friday and booked into the Weber County Jail for criminal homicide.

As for the infant’s mother, police believe she will not face any charges.

“…She’s been here in our police department, has spoken with investigators, is cooperative," Scott said. "I don’t see any charges developing with the mother."

The mother’s Facebook page reveals the family made the decision to have some of baby Avery’s organs donated to help other children in need.

Loved ones have created a GoFundMe account to assist the baby's family.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are still gathering information. Anyone with details regarding this case is asked to call Ogden Police Detective T. Gerfen at 801-629-8477 or email at detectives@ogdencity.com.
