SALT LAKE CITY -- The old Western says, “Don’t Fence Me in,” but moose, elk and deer might be grateful to be fenced in along I-80 in Parley’s Canyon.
UDOT workers just began construction on the first section of wildlife fencing in the canyon. This fall they expect to finish a one-mile stretch of fence near Jeremy Ranch.
Lorelei Combs is part of the group, Save People Save Animals, which raised $50,000 for the fence. She says she was just reminded why it is so important.
“I took my son to school yesterday, and we had, I was going maybe 15 miles per hour, and I had a male moose jump right out in front of me, in front of my car,” Combs said.
Save People Save Animals convinced UDOT to contribute another $50,000 and take on the project.
UDOT spokesman John Gleason says the project is a no-brainer.
“There's a lot of people, there's a lot of traffic, and there's a lot of animals,” Gleason said.
