SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah -- A 20-year-old man was killed in Saratoga Springs Friday after a trench collapsed as he was working in it.

Authorities later identified the deceased as 20-year-old Yongwhan Kim of Lehi.

Owen Jackson, Public Relations Manager for Saratoga Springs, said a two-man construction crew was working in the area of 1900 South Centennial Boulevard when the incident occurred Friday afternoon around 2:30 p.m.

One man was operating a backhoe and the second was assisting on the ground. The backhoe operator lost track of Kim for some time, and he later found the man buried under dirt after a trench collapsed.

The coworker began digging the buried man out, and he began CPR while paramedics were still on their way. The man who was buried was pronounced dead at the scene.
