Former Utah State University football player Torrey Green has been charged Thursday with four counts of rape in five alleged attacks from 2013 to 2015.

The 23-year-old is also facing aggravated kidnapping and forcible sex abuse charges.

According to court documents, the alleged rapes occurred between Nov. 1, 2013 and  Jan. 1, 2015. A press release from the Cache County Attorney’s Office indicates nine separate cases were investigated in relation to Green, and each alleged victim reported the incidents independently of one another.

The documents show the alleged kidnapping and forcible sex abuse happened on Oct. 24, 2014. Official documents show all of the alleged assaults happened in Logan, Utah.

Green has been arrested in California and awaits extradition to Utah, according to the County Attorney’s office.

The Atlanta Falcons had signed Green earlier this year but released him in August after learning of the sexual assault allegations.

The Utah State Vice President and Athletics Director John Hartwell sent Fox 13 this statement in August:

“I take allegations of sexual assault extremely seriously, and we in USU Athletics take action — decisive and immediate action — as soon as it’s appropriate. That is our record to this point in the football program when a player breaks team rules, and it will always be our record in every Athletics program.

Coach Wells during his tenure as head coach has a proven track record for disciplining and dismissing players, and he does not wait for an arrest to trigger action. He has dismissed key players for violating the team rules, and he applies his standards consistently – whether the person is on the scout team or a first-team impact player. Within the last 14 months, Coach Wells has dismissed two all-conference student athletes.

Athletics has taken a pro-active approach to educating our student-athletes about the issue of sexual assault. We educate all our student-athletes every year about the prevention and reporting of sexual assault. The football program, in particular, now brings in local law enforcement experts to talk to players about the issue of sexual assault.

The University is conducting a thorough inquiry into all aspects of this matter, including taking a close look at every action taken by the Athletics program. We welcome that inquiry. We already have been cooperating fully with the inquiry, and we will continue that cooperation.”
