HOLLADAY, Utah — A man who was in critical condition after an alleged strangling Sunday died Thursday, and the charges against the victim’s son will be amended in light of the death.

The Unified Police Department confirmed that 53-year-old Bryan Wright died Thursday.

Wright was taken to a hospital Sunday after authorities responded to a 911 call at a Holladay home. While the caller told authorities the incident was a suicide attempt, police later arrested the man’s son, 24-year-old Shane Wright, and booked him on an attempted murder charge.

According to a statement of probable cause, Shane Wright told arriving officers: “It’s gruesome, I helped my dad kill himself.”

Police stated that the attempted homicide charge filed against Shane Wright will be amended in light of his father’s death.
