Two injured after lightning strike at Kennecott

COPPERTON, Utah — Two employees at Kennecott Utah Copper were taken to hospitals in good condition Wednesday after lightning struck a power pole near the men.

Unified PD first tweeted about the strike just before 2 p.m., and the incident occurred near 8352 West and 10200 South.

The two men, ages 35 and 50, were taken to a hospital in good condition.

Officials with Kennecott at the scene said the two men were operating a cherry picker type machine when a nearby power pole was struck by lightning. Kenncecott said the two employees were on their way to seek shelter from the weather when the lightning strike occurred.
