Watches and warnings for much of Utah as strong thunderstorms hit

SALT LAKE CITY — Watches, warnings and advisories have been issued for much of Utah Thursday as strong weather slams the state, and a tornado briefly touched down in Riverdale.

The National Weather Service stated there is a severe thunderstorm warning for a large portion of the Wasatch Front Thursday evening, and gusts of up to 70 mph have been observed.

There have also been reports of hail in several places.

About 10,381 customers in Weber County and another 17,140 in Davis county were without power Thursday as of 4:11 p.m., according to Rocky Mountain Power. While it was not immediately clear what caused the outages, they are in the same areas where strong storms have been reported.
