ATHENS, Tenn. — Four people, including the suspect, are dead after a man walked into a Tennessee factory Thursday afternoon and opened fire, according to the Daily Post-Athenian.

The lone gunman entered the Thomas and Betts factory in Athens at about 4 p.m. and went directly to the production manager’s office, where he shot and killed his first victim, according to the paper.

The gunman then entered the main part of the factory where he shot and killed two more people.

Officials said shortly after that, the gunman was “down,” but it is not clear whether the gunman shot himself or was taken down by police, the newspaper reported.

The scene was secured by 5:10 p.m.

Nearby McMinn County High School was placed on lockdown as a security measure but no threats were made toward the school.

Thomas and Betts manufactures connectors and components for the electrical and communications industries.
