WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah — A man from Carbon County nearly drowned at Sand Hollow State Park Saturday, but he was rescued with the assistance of Search and Rescue crews who were conducting a training exercise at the reservoir.
According to a press release from Utah State Parks, a 21-year-old man from Carbon County was swimming with some friends but soon had trouble staying afloat.
The man’s friends gave him assistance and called for help from a nearby Search and Rescue boat that happened to be nearby conducting a pre-scheduled Search and Rescue training.
The swimmer was loaded onto the boat, and emergency medical procedures were initiated. The victim was taken to shore, where a waiting ambulance transported him to to a hospital. Officials described the incident as a near-drowning, but specific details about the victim’s condition were not immediately clear.
