Phone, internet services temporarily downed in Tooele County after fiber line cut
TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Cell phones, land lines and Internet services were down in Tooele County Thursday after a fiber line was cut by mistake, and while phone service has been restored the Internet outage is expected to continue until about 10 p.m.
Michelle Jackson with Century Link said a third-party contractor unrelated to Century Link inadvertently cut a fiber line sometime Thursday. Fox 13 News first heard reports of the outage just after 6 p.m.
Jackson said 911 calls in the affected area were immediately routed through another service. Fox 13 News viewers reported the outage affected cell phones on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Various land lines in Tooele County were also reported to be down.
Jackson said around 8:20 p.m. that land line and cell phone services had been restored, and Internet service was expected to resume by about 10 p.m.
