ST. GEORGE, Utah – Authorities are investigating what led to a student’s death after she was found unconscious in Dixie State University’s Student Activities Center Tuesday.

The woman, 26-year-old Jessica Reynolds, was found unresponsive in a bathroom stall just after 8 p.m.

Emergency crews immediately started CPR but were not able to resuscitate Reynolds.

The medical examiner is now working to determine what caused her death.

Dixie State Police Chief Don Reid told the St. George News no foul play is suspected.

Reid said only students with valid school IDs and passes are able to get inside the activity center.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance video that captures everyone who comes and goes from the building.

DSU Dean of Students Del Beatty said a group therapy session has been set up at Dixie State’s Health and Wellness Center for students, faculty and staff who are impacted by the incident.

He said individual sessions are also available through the center by appointment as needed at (435) 652-7756.

“Instances like these are always tragic when they impact our student body,” Beatty said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and will do anything we can to help them and all students get through this challenging time.”
