TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — A Sandy man is behind bars after leading highway patrol troopers on a high-speed chase.

The chase started after the Utah Highway Patrol received a report of a black Ford SUV speeding and driving recklessly on SR-201 in Tooele County.

Troopers located the SUV and attempted to stop it, but the driver led them on a chase, at times exceeding 100 mph.

“It looks like about mile marker nine, so just about nine miles this side of the Nevada border. The vehicle ran out of gas. The driver coasted to a stop, took him about a mile to finally come to a stop, and troopers took him into custody,” said Sgt. Jacob Box, UHP.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Dustin Shumway. Troopers found multiple open containers of alcohol in the SUV and Shumway could face a charge  of driving under the influence.
