SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities are trying to track down handguns stolen from a fatal shooting scene in Salt Lake City Sunday morning.

On Monday, Salt Lake City police asked the public for help in providing information that leads to the location of these missing weapons, which they think are connected to the incident.

Just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called to a shots fired and report of a hit-and-run accident at 300 S. 550 West.  During the investigation, officers learned the two incidents were connected, calling it a “drug deal gone bad.”

Jesse Ray Rakes, 30, was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the hip. He later died at an area hospital. Officers arrested Matthew Eyre, Michael Polk, Daniel Christopher Simon Jr. and Natanni Xoumphonphackdy in connection to the incident.

Before police arrived, witnesses told authorities they saw 15 to 30 people raid the wrecked car, taking items of evidentiary value from the vehicle and off the victim, according to a press release from Salt Lake City police.

Among those items police are concerned about are two to three handguns. Authorities say at least two of the weapons are involved in the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these missing handguns is asked to call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000.
